Ktima Gerovassiliou Single Vineyard Malagousia 2018 - Greece
Bottle size: 750ml
At Ktima Gerovassiliou, the single, private vineyard is cultivated with great care and enthusiasm, which leads to the production of high quality wines that carry all the distinct characteristics of the terroir of Epanomi. The vineyard is surrounded on three sides by the sea, which is just 3km away, while its west side faces Mount Olympus and the beaches of Pieria. The Malagousia (pronounced Mah-lah-gou-ZYA) displays expressive and complex aromas of white pear, mango and lemon zest combined with floral hints. Delightful and refreshing on the palate it is rich and harmonious with a spicy, mouthwatering finish with a delicious flinty, mineral character.
Totally unique dry white, Malagousia is a native grape which was largely rescued from extinction by this winemaking family in Macedonia. The vineyard is surrounded on three sides by the sea adding a subtle mineral/saline character to the gorgeous vibrant fruit. It is so good, interesting, fresh, complex, hard to describe but there’s some fennel and green herbs in there amidst the lovely fresh pear crisp fruit and bristling lemony acidity. For the curious at heart, this is a beautiful white loaded with personality which clearly expresses a ’sense of place’. Absolutely love this wine.
