PORTO KOPKE (Cop-key) – Kopke is the market leader for Colheita single year tawnies, exceeding 25% in volume of the Global Share in this high quality Port. Since 1638, when the German diplomat Cristiano Kopke founded the Douro wine shipping company, Kopke has become universally recognized as the first Port house in Port wine history.
In 2011 Porto Kopke celebrates 373 years of continuous product1ion of fine Porto with grapes from its famous Quinta São Luiz with its many gold-medal winning vintages. However, it wasn’t until 1675 that a shipment from the Douro to Holland was first called “Porto” and in 1678 that the Oporto customs office registered its first shipment of Porto to England. Today it maintains its own special character and independent cellars as the quality “standard bearer” of such other Sogevinus firms as Calem, Burmester, Barros, Hutcheson, Gilbert and Rocha.
Vinification Hand-harvest at their best moment, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified in a careful maceration with extraction of colour, tannins and aromas of the pellicles, complemented by permanent pumping-over during fermentation. This process takes place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature between 28-30ºC, until reaching the desired Baumé.
At this phase, grape brandy is added (benefit), originating a fortified wine. Obtained by the lotation of wines with variable levels of maturation and sources, lead through the ageing in stainless-steel and wood for a minimum of 3 years, resulting in a rich wine, aromatic and with a balanced sweetness.

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.
For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
