The Springs block is located on the historic Merindoc property. Now home to some small vineyard parcels the land was previously used solely for grazing, with sheep roaming the rolling hills amongst magnificent granite boulders and outcrops. The vineyard is situated just outside the township of Tooborac, at the Southern end of the Heathcote region at around 1,200 feet altitude, the Macedon Ranges GI begins just a few miles South. This site, planted by the Shelmerdine family in 1995, is in many ways the 'anti-Heathcote' with cooler Southerly location and granite and ironstone soils (opposed to pre-Cambrian limestone) ideal for production of fine, bright and aromatic Syrah.

The Wine Front

Geez, really liking what young Josh Cooper is doing. Judicious sourcing of fruit, a handle on the gentle winemaking, resulting wines coming out like Adam Gilchrist in the third test of the 2006-2007 Ashes series. This is 100% whole bunch, foot stomped and fermented in an old wooden fermenter then hangs out for 20 months to get its vibe right. This ain’t typical Heathcote shiraz.

Exotic nee crazy. This is feral, funky, ferrous, flighty. Full of bruised fruit and undergrowth, meat, cola, sweetness and sourness. Slinky texture, great length. It blasts out of the glass with supple potency and impressive carriage of flavour. Wild and stunning.

Producers notes

My wine operation is based around a negociant system, sourcing grapes locally from sensitive growers, with great vineyard sites in the Heathcote and Macedon Ranges regions. This is an exploration of my surroundings through wine, made without artifice, to be a reflection of its place and season. The first vintage was in 2012, with a single barrel of wine made from fruit my parents grew at Cobaw Ridge vineyard. This has since expanded to a more varied range, including historic styles as well as the more experimental and esoteric. As well as working further with my family, my ambition in the coming years is to transition to vineyard establishment. Supplementing the current fruit with what I’ve grown myself.

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
