Fruit for the 2019 Hutton Triptych Margaret River Chardonnay was sourced from the Wildberry Springs vineyard in Wilyabrup. The Gin Gin and clone 5 grapes were hand picked in March, chilled overnight, then gently whole-bunch pressed.

The free run juice and light pressings were fermented naturally with wild yeasts in French barriques (54% new) and partial malolactic fermentation was encouraged. The wine was matured for 8 months in barrel with minimal battonage. Bottling was in December and 128 cases were produced.

Our notes

"Obviously a baby version of the Reserve with slightly rounder shape and mouthfeel but similar focus and energy. Shows similar fruit notes of white peach and grapefruit with subtle flecks of honey and powdered cashew. All very elegant and precise. Oak is discreet too and acidity bright with distinct lemony notes yet less fierce and intense than the laser-like Reserve. Wonderful." CR.

Attractive light gold colour. I’ve seen this wine in barrel a couple of times before in separately fermented parcels of Gingin clone (66%) and Clone 5 (34%). Each of the individual parts was good but the sum of the parts is better. Like its Reserve big brother, it is unusually lean and restrained compared to a Triptych Chardonnay from a more usual Margaret River season. Lime citrus, white stonefruit, cashew, nougat around the minerally acid core. The wine has undergone a partial malo. The oak treatment in this (54% new oak) is superlative and it is a great example of the complexity oak can add to a Chardonnay when it’s well done. Beautifully balanced and more approachable at this stage than the Reserve. Amazing value. 95+/96

Producers notes

"I love wine. I love making it, drinking it, buying it and selling it. I love the crisp crack of a screwcap being twisted off a bottle, and the gurgling sound it makes being poured. Most of all I love the sweet anticipation of what lies before you in the glass. Thinking about it, it's not hard to understand how this came to be. In 1975 when I was 6 years old, my parents planted vines on the family cattle farm in Margaret River, and in 1978 made their first wines.

School holidays and weekends were often spent helping out in the vineyard and winery, and sampling the finished product when no one was looking. After studying architecture in Perth and many years away, I returned to the area in 2005 and made 2 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon in 2006, which was the birth of Hutton Wines.

The rest as they say, is history. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is sourced from the Wildberry Springs Estate vineyard in Wilyabrup to make the ‘Graffiti’ and 'Triptych’ series. ‘Graffiti’ is a fun introduction to the classic varieties of Margaret River whilst the ‘Triptych’ Estate and Reserve wines are the finest expression of vineyard and vintage. I hope you enjoy these wines and share the love."

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
