Winemaker Steve Crawford, the man behind Frederick Stevenson wines and also Giovanni Armani Giorgio (GAG) wines, is one of the creative and innovative contemporary stylists that are starting to shake things up in the Barossa. His wines are modelled on the light to medium-bodied beauties Steve found and loved whilst travelling through Europe, delicious bistro-style wines that are crafted in a natural unhurried fashion and consumed without too much fuss in good wine bars and restaurants on a daily basis.

His Dry Red is a stunning example built around sexy Cinsault, with Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre in support. It’s medium-bodied with the fruit driving the palate showing lovely texture, vibrancy and quiet complexity. The vineyards are mostly biodynamic and the wine is whole bunch fermented in concrete using wild yeasts, left to hang out on skins for a while, then later matured in old 500-litre oak barrels, and bottled with minimal sulphur additions.

It’s incredibly delicious and satisfying, and as Mike Bennie from WINEFRONT rightly points out, "outrageously good for the bucks”.

This is the kind of under the radar cutting edge vinous beauty we like to put in front of our customers. And we recommend it very highly indeed…!

Our notes

Spicy dark berry aromas with some flashes of red currant, red cherry and bright plum fruit usher in a mid weight palate that is silky smooth and textural, alive with delicious savoury edged primary flavours that echo the nose. There’s a a touch meatiness and wildness inferring an extra dimension of complexity and interest. This is pleasure in a glass! A joy to drink…

The Wine Front
Cinsault, shiraz, grenache, mourvedre, but dominated by the cinsault. Does what the label says, as I say each year. Game meat and bloody whiffs, violets, sweet earth and red berries. Palate is similar, spicy and chewy, almost tactile peppery character, light dry burr of tannin to finish. This is to be guzzled with impunity – a wicked, detailed, young and fresh red but with enough depth and interest to keep you at it. Brilliant wine; outrageously good for the bucks.

Producers notes

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
