Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges 2019 - Burgundy
Bottle size: 750ml
Vines have been grown in Nuits for over 1000 years and the history of the village is inseparable from its renowned vineyards. At the end of the 17th century, Louis XIV, who suffered from digestive problems, was advised by his doctor to drink a glass of Nuits every day. In 1892, the village of "Nuits" added its name to that of its best climate: "Les Saint-Georges".
Intense garnet red hue and aromas of fruit, oak and spice on the nose. The palate reveals a smooth, rich attack, velvety tannins and good balance. A delicate, seductive and very elegant wine.
2019 is a fresh and well-balanced vintage characterised by extreme weather conditions (frost spells, heatwave). Volumes are low although the quality is outstanding. The harvests began on Monday 9 September and came to an end on 21 September. The red wines are seductive, well-balanced, aromatic, fresh and direct. The tannins are elegant and approachable. The palate discloses aromas of juicy fruits as well as warm, sunny, spicy notes.
Based in Nuits-St-Georges, the famous Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and in more recent times, the domaine has greatly expanded its vineyards across the entire Côte d'Or. The grapes are entirely destemmed and fermented in a mix of new wooden vats for the top end wines and stainless steel for the lesser cuvees. Once notorious for being fairly austere, there has been less emphasis on extraction over the last ten years and the wines show increased freshness, purity of fruit and more judicious use of oak. A contender for one of the most improved domaines in Burgundy over the last decade.
