Vieux Telegraphe Telegramme Chateauneuf Du Pape 2019 - Rhone Valley
Bottle size: 750ml
Vieux TeÌleÌgraphe’s second-label ChaÌ‚teauneuf-du- Pape red, made with the grapes of young vines under 30 years old, plus older parcels not located on the Plateaux of La Crau or Piedlong.
GRAPE VARIETIES: grenache 80%, syrah 10%, mourvèdre 6% and cinsault 4%.
VINE AGE: 40 years on average.
VINIFICATION: grapes are hand-picked, with double sorting at the vine, then a third sorting in the winery. They are destemmed, followed by 25-30 days’ traditional fermentation in temperature- controlled vats. Pneumatic pressing, then systematic malolactic fermentation.
Deep violet. Ripe, spice-accented dark berry and cherry preserve scents show strong garrigue and floral accents. Pliant in texture and broad in the mouth, offering sappy boysenberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors and a peppery topnote. Finishes long and gently chewy, with the floral and spice notes repeating. Score: 93, Drinking Window 2026-2036. Vinous by Josh Raynolds on September 2021
Very ripe damson plum, but not a jot overripe on the finely
nuanced nose. This powerful Chateauneuf has an excellent
balance of generous, fine tannins and richness, the lively
acidity lifting the long savory finish beautifully. Drink or hold.
Score: 94, Thursday April 7th 2022, James Suckling
One of the legends of Chateauneuf du Pape is the great property of Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. Robert Parker says "This venerable estate, long run by the Brunier family, is a consistent source for fabulous wines." The domaine spreads over 170 acres on the Plateau de la Crau, covered with the rocky soil that makes Chateauneuf famous.
