Chateau de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet Rouge 2016 - Rhone Valley
Bottle size: 750ml
The 2016 vintage in the Southern Rhone valley is exceptional, both in terms of quality and quantity, thanks to idyllic weather conditions that protected the region from climatic accidents throughout the whole year.
The 30 hectares of Coudoulet are located just east of the vineyard of Beaucastel on the other side of the A7 motorway. For reasons that have now become obvious, Coudoulet is often considered the baby Beaucastel. The Coudoulet soil has many similarities to that of Beaucastel. It is made out of Molasse seabed covered by diluvial alpine deposits. These pebbles called “Galets Roulés” play a big role: They take in the heat during the day and let it if off slowly at night which gives a good start to the vines in the Spring.
Beautiful dark red dress. The nose is powerful with intense notes of juniper, black olives and pepper. In the mouth, it is an explosion of red fruit, with floral and spicy notes, but with a very nice balance combining great freshness, a beautiful complexity, a soft texture and a nice acidity. A wine that has a lot of character.
his is flat out beautiful. Polished yet still loaded with character and wonderful ripe dark berry fruit amidst tarry notes, some lifted violet and pleasing savoury elements. It’s medium to full-bodied with superior mouthfeel compared to other Cote du Rhone’s, and fine structural tannins adding shape to the lovely sun kissed Rhone fruit. Outstanding Cote du Rhone here from this superstar producer. Love this wine… - Constantine
The result of all the efforts and innovations of three generations of the Perrin family is evident when one has the pleasure of tasting a good vintage of Chateau de Beaucastel at its peak. If one word could describe the red wines of Beaucastel it would be 'pure', because these wines are the natural expression of the place and the grapes from which they come.
