Importers Notes: Pajore is one of our favourite crus in Treiso and this wine highlights all that is great about the 2016 vintage in the Langhe.  It's a wine of impeccable balance, such that, tasted alongside the 95+ Point 2015 edition, it looks more approachable and assured already. But it is perhaps the aromatics that sets this wine apart from so many others - there's a wonderful perfume before you delve into the silky fruit in the glass. It's very early accessibility and deliciousness is going to make it very hard to survive to full maturity in many cellars.

Our notes

The Wine Front
"I was chatting with a winemaker chap the other evening, who loves Nebbiolo, but only bothers with Barolo. It’s pretty likely I snorted and called him an idiot, but it was late on and the memories are misty, gin & soda coloured memories… Lashings of sweet red berries, heaps of floral perfume, aniseed and spice, new leather and sage. Medium-bodied, juicy in the red fruit department, not quite jubey, though certainly bursting with the joy of youth and excitement of vintage 2016. It has a translucent quality, a shimmer of perfume, with ultra-fine pumice stone tannin, and a vibrant finish of excellent length, where fine persistent tannin tussles with fragrant black tea and bright red fruits. Transparency and finesse. It’s a great Barbaresco. Tasted : Feb19 Alcohol : 14% Price : $110 Closure : Cork Drink : 2021 - 2036”

Producers notes

A natural amphitheatre exposed south-westerly, to the classic afternoon sun, where the particular microclimate exhalts the production of a Barolo wine which is very fragranced and delicate with a balanced body and with soft tannins.

Borgo Castagni is a synonym of Bel Colle, in fact the wine cellar stands in this locality which joins both Verduno and La Morra. They are household vineyards where the vegetative production is controlled and monitored daily by Belle Colle from pruning to gathering. It is exposed towards west-southwest and wines produced on calcareous-clay land with gypsum veining have an olfactory component which is unique for its intensity and persistence joined with an excellent colouring intensity.

We practice sustainable winemaking, with manual harvesting, slow pressing of the grape cluster and balanced maceration. Each phase has the aim of storing and transmitting, in whole, the balance and the harmony of the grapes into the bottle all the way to the glass.
