 A relatively large property by Montalcino standards, Argiano is one of the region’s historic wineries. Its villa, recently restored, dates from 1581.  A change of ownership in 2013 and subsequent investment has moved Argiano from the middle to the front of the pack.  

The vineyards sit on a plateau in the central part of the Brunello zone, just west of the village of Sant’Angelo in Colle. The northern vineyard parcels—made up of alluvial clay, alluvial sandy silt and loam, with outcroppings of limestone and clay over a bed of limestone and marl—are planted to Sangiovese. 

In the winery, there has been a move to more traditional winemaking, ensuing the more invasive oak barriques typically used in Bordeaux and embracing larger format and more neutral oak.  All this delivers a beautiful wine of purity and class.   Expect classic Brunello aromas and flavours of rose, strawberry and cherry aromas, along with wild herb and mineral notes.   Brunello is the pinnacle of Sangiovese and Tuscan wine and a must of every Italian wine lover’s table and cellar.
