100% Pinot Noir from three vineyards in the Coal River Valley: the Brinktop Vineyard in Sorell, the Pressing Matters vineyard in Richmond and the Bubb + Pooley vineyard on White Kangaroo Road. The fruit was hand picked and wild-yeast fermented with 10% whole bunches over 25 days. Matured for 9 months in a mix of concrete (30%) and French oak puncheons (70%) with 20% new oak. Bottled unfined, so vegan friendly.

The deep garnet colour leads into spiced cranberries, black cherry, plum and mocha aromas. Given time, these aromas are complex with Asian five spice, and savoury characters. the palate is bright with fleshy, red fruits, spice, silky tannins and natural acidity keeping flavours lively to the long finish. As the wine ages, expect more savoury notes developing alongside the spicy, dark fruits.

After a several-year hiatus while we waited for our new pinot noir vines to grow, the Stoney Vineyard Pinot Noir returns—juicy, fresh and floral. Drawn from a new block at the bottom of the vineyard, the fruit character is bright and light, with fresh raspberries and wafts of baked cherry pie overlaid by floral, almost peachy spice notes. Palate is light but well structured, with skinsy tannins and good supporting acid. A vibrant expression of a promising new block.

Location: Coal River Valley Aspect: North-east facing Size: 34 Hectares Planted: 1999 Soil type: Calcareous & Triassic sandstone Under vine: Mv6, D5V12 In our obsession with Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs from great Pinot growing areas around the world, we have gone as far south (and as cold) as you can go in this country. Despite the cool temperatures, the sunlight hours are long and intense and we are intrigued by the depth of palate and colour that is possible from this landscape. While it is made with the Giant Steps gentle winemaking approach, the result is clearly a world apart in terroir. The Pinot Noir from Nocton vineyard have amazing density and texture, with powerful weight and concentration.

One of the stalwarts of the Tamar Valley, Rebecca and Tim Duffy have been behind a multitude of fabulous wines produced in the region for almost 20 years. Their 2023 Pinot Noir is highly aromatic, with beautiful dark cherry and strawberry characters on the nose with earthy, spicy complexity. Finely poised, with wonderful fruit intensity, vibrant acidity and fine silky tannins, this is everything we love about Tamar Pinot.

Estate grown and select parcels of Derwent Valley fruit grown on a mix of two terroirs, grey gravelly loams over clay and red loam over gravel. The majority of the fruit is biodynamically grown. The structure is fine because the wine is on skins for only a short time. 90% is aged in seasoned French oak for 10 months. The grapes are hand picked at around 13 Be. and fermented with own yeasts and some whole bunches. Basket pressed after about three weeks. Cellared underground over winter and spring. Prepared for bottling in late summer.
